About MachiniFeed

MachiniFeed is a blended RSS feed, combining the feeds from a large number of machinima-related sites into one convenient stream. The sites (ingredients) include machinima blogs and news sites from across the Internet and across the world.

The primary purpose of MachiniFeed is to make it easier for people who like to follow what is going on in the fast-growing world of machinima at a large number of sites with a minimum of effort. A secondary purpose is to provide a feed which others can use on their own blogs and websites to keep their readers connected to other topical writings and news... kind of the modern equivalent of a "web ring", but with a more open, less linear (and less annoying) approach to navigation between related sites.

We choose ingredients for inclusion in our "recipe" based on your recommendations. The criterion is singular and simple: the site's content must be about machinima (or in a few cases, animation) and not much else. If content of the ingredient falls even a little out of sync with the machinima/animation theme, the ingredient will be removed from the blend. If the content of the ingredient is not overwhelmingly ON TOPIC, it will very likely never be added to the blend in the first place.

Ingredients are polled on an hourly basis for updates, and their articles are fed into our database so the blended feed can be assembled dynamically and efficiently, on demand. All HTML (and most special characters - we're still working on a few of them) are pruned from the titles and descriptions, and the descriptions are truncated to a length no more than 100 characters. This keeps the blended feed lean and mean, and reduces a great many of the headaches caused by conflicting implementations of the RSS standards.

Use of MachiniFeed is anonymous, unless you are using the forms on this site in which case your IP address is logged; this is purely to help prevent abuse by bots or over-caffienated users. All personal information, including ip addresses and e-mail addresses, is kept strictly confidential, is purged regularly, and is used for no purpose other than to process your requests and feedback.

MachiniFeed.com is a 100% non-commercial endeavor. We do not ask for (or accept) donations, and we do not make use of banner ads, Google ad words, or any other form of commercial intrusion. The site administrators are unpaid machinima enthusiasts. We do this because we love machinima and its community.

You are free to anonymously make use of MachiniFeed on any website, commercial or non-commercial, provided that you respect our bandwidth by not over-hitting the feed file(s). The blend is updated once per hour; as such, there is no legitimate reason for a site to be hitting it more often than that.
