Customized Feed
If you have a browser which supports DHTML, you can use the following form to automatically build the URL for a custom feed. (If this doesn't work for you, no problem, click here for manual instructions.)
Simply select the options you prefer for your version of the feed, and the URL you need will be displayed in the box below.
Manual Customization (Advanced)
There are several filters which can be applied to the outgoing MachiniFeed, all of which are specified by modifications to the URL, called a "Query String". Your base URL is always http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/, with the following possible modifiers (in any order, all of them optional):
- width: By default, MachiniFeed includes only machinima ingredients. If you wish for a broader feed which includes some ingredients from the neighboring disciplines of Animation and Film, set this to a value of broad.
- filter: Set this to a value of 1 to select only Machinima Blog ingredients, 2 for only Machinima News ingredients, 3 for only Animation ingredients, or 4 for only Film ingredients. This overrides width if both are in use. (Ingredients are the individual RSS feeds which have been blended into one MachiniFeed.)
- arts: Set this to any value between 1 and 40 to specify the maximum number of articles which should be listed in your custom feed.
- dchars: Set this to any value between 1 and 500 to specify the maximum number of characters per article which should appear in your custom feed.
- exc: It is possible that you would like to use MachiniFeed on your own website or blog. If your website or blog happens to be an ingredient of MachiniFeed, then you might want to exclude your own blog from your custom feed (since visitors are already at your site). Simply choose the appropriate index number in the Ingredients List for the one you'd like to exclude from your version of the feed.
- nodesc: Some people want a lean feed with just titles and links, no descriptions. MachiniFeed already trims description text to under 100 characters of text per article, but if you'd prefer to eliminate the descriptions from your feed altogether, simply set this to 1.
Examples:
http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/?filter=2 :: This feed will only display articles from sites classified as News sites.
http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/?width=broad&arts=50 :: This feed will display all active ingredients, the 50 most recent items.
http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/?filter=1&arts=10 :: This feed will only display articles from blogs, and will grab the 10 most recent items.
http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/?dchars=250&exc=4 :: This feed will return a maximum of 250 characters per article, and will exclude ingredient # 4.
http://www.machinifeed.com/feed/?arts=40&dchars=250&exc=4&nodesc=1 :: This feed will display 40 articles from all ingredients except index number 4, without descriptions.
